Our way of doing things
On entering the Church
You will receive a warm welcome, given a copy of our “Sunday Link” (which you may keep) and a copy of the relevant hymn book. There are no reserved seats, so please sit anywhere you wish – although preferably not right at the back.
The service commences with the lighting of the Peace Candle. There is a response to this, and the words will be found on the inside cover of the hymn book
After introductory bars, we stand to sing. You may remain seated if you find this more comfortable. At the end of the hymn we sit.
For all prayers, we tend to remain seated.
During the service a Church Member will pass the offertory plate around for your gift of money. On completion they walk towards the preacher, and as they pass we stand and remain standing for a short prayer. When the Church Member turns away, we sit.
Communion is celebrated as part of the normal service on the first Sunday of each month. We do not use wafer, but break bread. Servers will take bread to each member of the congregation, but we do not eat until everybody has been served and when prompted by the preacher so that we all partake together.
Similarly, servers will take small cups of non-alcoholic wine to each member of the congregation, but we do not drink until everybody has been served and when prompted by the preacher. The empty cups are then placed in the racks at the back of the chair in front.
Everybody is welcome to take communion, but if you do not wish to do so, do not be embarrassed, but simply indicate when the server comes round.
End of service blessing.
After the last hymn we remain standing for the Blessing Prayer. After the blessing we all sit for a few moments in silent prayer. When the preacher walks to the back of the church we prepare to leave, chat with old friends or make new ones.
Services are held every Sunday morning at 10.30 am. We look forward to seeing you
